THIS JUST IN: Brides and Bridesmaids wearing cowgirl boots with their dresses is out!
This wedding trend exploded on the scene with Miranda Lambert's wedding to Blake Shelton in the Spring/Summer of 2011. Since then, the rustic and country/western themes have swept through the wedding world like wildfire. In fact, 3 out of 5 weddings, the bride and her gals wear cowgirl boots.
Y'all, it's been 7 years of this craziness with copycat themes. It has almost completely lost it's cuteness and there is absolutely nothing unique and special about it. Now, it's just old hat, overused, and overrated. These pseudo country gals have gotten so out of control that the REAL country gals are getting upset. I have personally talked to many country brides, who feel that their legitimate country lifestyle, that they live day in and day out, has been two-stepped on by a bunch of "city girls" who want to feel like a country girl for the day, because it's "trendy and cute". Meanwhile, the real country brides, who want a country themed barn wedding with cowgirl boots, because it is actually their lifestyle, feel like their wedding will now no longer be special and unique to them. Instead it would get lost in an endless pile of leather boots and cookie cutter barn weddings.
Now, I have nothing against rustic or country barn weddings with cowgirl boots, but as a country girl myself, I have to say that I completely understand and respect where these country brides are coming from. I did not have a rustic or country themed wedding, nor did I ever have a desire to wear boots for my wedding. Instead, I chose to have a wedding that was personal and spoke to the special love and uniquely individual relationship of my husband and I.
This is what weddings should be. They should be unique to the lives and love stories of the individual couple. This makes the wedding day more memorable not only for the couple, but for the guests in attendance. Let's face it, no one wants to have a cookie cutter wedding, and yet I have even heard wedding photographers and planners complaining about these rustic and country/western themed weddings with cowgirl boots, saying, "if you've seen one, you've seen them all" and "it's boring and overdone".
It's time to let the real country girls have their boots back, and really focus on what makes your relationship and love story unique and special. Then, one day, when you look back on the memories of your wedding day, you will know that no one in the world had a wedding day quite as unique and special as yours. Give your guests something to talk about and remember for years, instead of being a guest at a wedding that they will forget about almost as soon as they leave, because it's the same as everyone else's.
